Parent FAQs

Your questions, answered

Everything Birmingham parents ask us most, from costs and funding to meals, potty training and settling in. Can’t find your answer? Just get in touch.

What age can my child start nursery?

Children can start at Golden Kidz Daycare from 3 months old and stay with us until they begin school at 5. We have three age-appropriate rooms: babies (3 to 18 months), toddlers (18 months to 3 years) and preschool (3 to 5 years).

How much does daycare cost in Birmingham?

Our day childcare is cheap and affordable. Our full day childcare costs £65 per child and can be discounted to £50 depending on the number of hours you use our facilities.

What funding and free childcare hours do you accept?

We accept 15 hours for all 3 to 4 year-olds, 30 hours for eligible working parents, expanded funded hours from 9 months for eligible families, 2-year-old funding, and Tax-Free Childcare. Our team will help you check what you qualify for.

What are your opening hours?

We’re open Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 7:00pm, closing at 7:30pm, all year round except bank holidays and a short closure over Christmas. This suits most working-parent schedules, including early starts and later finishes.

What meals do you provide?

We provide warm food every day: breakfast, a hot lunch and a tea-time meal in the late afternoon, plus healthy snacks and water throughout the day. Our meals are freshly prepared and delivered each day by a trusted local catering partner. Menus are balanced and nutritious, and we fully cater for allergies, intolerances and dietary or cultural requirements.

Do you help with potty training?

Yes. We work in close partnership with parents to potty train when your child shows they’re ready, keeping a consistent, gentle approach between home and nursery. Our staff are experienced, patient and always encouraging.

How do you settle new children in?

Every child is assigned a key person and offered free settling-in sessions before they start. These gradual visits help your child feel secure and let us learn their routines, comforters and preferences so the transition is calm and happy.

What is your sick-child policy?

For everyone’s wellbeing, children who are unwell, for example with a fever, sickness or diarrhoea, should stay home until they’re better. We follow NHS and UKHSA exclusion guidance and will always contact you promptly if your child becomes unwell with us.

What are your staff-to-child ratios?

We meet the statutory EYFS ratios: 1 adult to 3 babies under 2, 1 to 5 toddlers aged 2, and 1 to 8 children aged 3 to 5. Lower ratios mean more attention, closer bonds and safer, calmer rooms.

Are your staff qualified and DBS-checked?

Yes. Our practitioners hold recognised early-years qualifications (Level 3 and above), are paediatric first-aid trained and undergo enhanced DBS checks. We invest in ongoing safeguarding and child-development training for the whole team.

Is there a waiting list, and how do I secure a place?

Popular days can fill up, so we recommend enquiring early. To secure a place you book a tour, complete a registration form and pay a small deposit. If your preferred days aren’t available, we’ll add you to our waiting list and contact you as soon as a space opens.

How will I know how my child’s day has been?

We share daily updates including meals, naps, nappies and activities, along with photos and observations of your child’s learning. At pick-up your key person will talk you through the highlights of the day.
